Saffron

Saffron is the dried threads of the flower of the Crocus sativus plant. These stigmas are hand cultivated and harvested, thus making it the most expensive spice. These stigmas are also used to make medicine. In India it is cultivated in Jammu and Kashmir.

Benefits:

  • Saffron contains several plant-derived chemical compounds that are known to be antioxidant, disease-preventing, and health-promoting. The active components in saffron have therapeutic applications, including antiseptic and digestive properties. It is a good source of minerals such as copper, potassium, calcium, magnesium, iron, and zinc. It is also rich in vitamins A and C.

Saffron may help in the following:

  • It is used to loosen phlegm. Take a cup of warm water with a few strands of saffron. Mix half a teaspoon of honey and drink it.
